San Francisco’s Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) Lead Hazard Control Program has been awarded a 3 million dollar grant to provide remediation of lead hazards in pre-1978 homes occupied by low income families with children. The program works closely with property owners and tenants to provide property assessments to identify hazards, remediation of hazards, limited abatement, tenant relocation, construction monitoring, clearance inspections to complete the project, and tenant and owner education on future maintenance. Services are provided at little or no cost to the property owner. To participate, the property must have been built prior to 1978, and 50% to 80% of the occupants must be low income (for example for a household of two, the maximum income is $67,550). Priority is given to properties with children who either live in the unit or visit regularly.
